Lurkbell Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Lurkbell is a browser extension that notifies you about new Reddit posts matching filters you set. It is published by the independent developer of Lurkbell ("we"). This policy explains what data the extension handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.

The short version: your watches, settings, inbox and API keys stay in your browser. We have no account system and never see what you watch or read. The only data that reaches us is a license key if you buy Pro, and anonymous usage counts, which you can turn off.

1. Data stored only in your browser

The following is kept in your browser's extension storage and is never sent to us:

Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it. You can also erase it at any time with Advanced → Reset.

2. Reddit

Lurkbell reads Reddit through the session you are already logged in with in this browser. It requests listings of the subreddits you watch, checks whether you are logged in, and looks up subreddit names while you type. These requests go directly from your browser to www.reddit.com, as when you browse Reddit yourself. They are covered by Reddit's privacy policy.

Lurkbell never sees or stores your Reddit password. It does not post, comment, vote or send messages.

3. Services you choose to connect

These only happen if you turn them on. The data goes directly from your browser to the service you picked, never through us.

The browser asks for your permission before Lurkbell may contact any of these services.

4. Data that reaches us

License keys (if you buy Pro)

Purchases are handled by our payment provider, Creem, which acts as merchant of record and processes your payment and email address. We do not receive your card details.

When you activate a key, the extension sends three things to our license server: the key, an activation id, and an activation label such as "Lurkbell · Chrome · 2026-10-05". It sends them again about once a week to confirm the key is still valid. The server forwards them to Creem and does not keep them.

Anonymous usage counts

To learn which features get used and where people get stuck, the extension sends a small event when certain things happen:

Each event contains only:

Our hosting provider adds the country of the connection. We do not store IP addresses.

Events never contain subreddits, keywords, posts, Reddit usernames, settings or API keys. You can turn usage counts off in Advanced → Send anonymous usage counts. Counts are kept for up to 3 months.

Our license server and usage counting run on Cloudflare, which processes the connection as our infrastructure provider.

This website

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Clicking "Buy Pro" sends a request to our server to open a Creem checkout; nothing about you is included.

5. What we don't do

The use of information received by Lurkbell adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

6. Your choices

The usage counts can't be tied to a person, so we can't single out or export an individual's counts. For anything about your purchase, contact us or Creem.

7. Children

Lurkbell is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above. If the change is significant, the extension's release notes will say so.
